Wesfarmers Arts Indigenous Fellowship program

The National Gallery of Australia warmly invite Indigenous Australians to apply for the Indigenous Arts Leadership program in 2011 and to be part of building the future of the Australian arts sector.

The National Gallery of Australia and Wesfarmers are delighted that the Wesfarmers Arts Indigenous Fellowship program, the first of its kind, has been established for Indigenous Australians with the goal to increase Indigenous leadership within the visual arts sector.

It consists of two programs:

Transience - Paperworks, Inc at Belconnen Arts Centre

10 - 28 August

Transience explores the evanescent through the use of a variety of plant fibres which metaphorically express fragility. The plant fibre materials that Paperworks' artisans employ are delicate in appearance, a reflection of the inherent fragile essence of each human being. The nuances of colour and texture exhibited by the fibrous pieces are reminiscent of seasonal change and echo the fleetingness of temporal life.

Exhibition opening by Chris Bourke, MLA  Friday 12 August > 6:00pm

Meet the artists Sunday 21 August > 2:00pm

The artists share an interest in surface treatments but approach this from very different directions. Lewis’ work is painterly, layered and abstract while Crick explores geometry, applied texture and negative space.
